Default Head gasket for Brumfield head

I have ordered and am going to use Felpro 7013 head gasket as recommended. I would like to know what the reasons are for not using the head gasket from Snyders that they call "modern" (steel with composite and silicon). Does anyone know?

Yes, I know. But I don't feel like typing three pages to explain it. If you use Snyder's gasket on a Brumfield Head it will likely burn out.

Thank you for following the manufacturer's recommendation instead of some opinion on a message board.

Larry has posted many times that he is not satisfied with the 'fit' of other gaskets to the head. Personally, I have seen too many blown out silicone ringed composition gaskets and would not go that route even if they fit. I don't know why the vendors call that silicone gasket "modern", new cars don't use any types of gaskets that require retorquing.

Here's somebody that I wish made "A" gaskets in their MLS line. They do have them for flatty 8's:

Yes mitch
I to have first hand knowldge of blowing out the silicon head gaskets on my brumfield head! I also have first hand exp on blowing out
a couple of felpro gaskets. Because i did'nt
follow LARRYS ADVICE and torque to 65 pounds and do it just as his directions said!!!
Follow his directions to a T. then retorque till
they stay at 65 pounds now matter how many times it takes to hold 65!!! I have had NO PROBLEMS SINCE DOING THIS. Made a beliver out of me!

Actually, my re-torque instructions (back off 1/8 turn) apply to ALL flat heads regardless of the make and in my opinion it is most important.

About 3 re-torques ought to be enough.
