Re: Remember!
My remembrance comes during summer car show season, it’s sad that when I ask the kids/teens at a car show what happened on Dec. 7th 1941, they can’t tell me. At least I get to educate them for a few minutes. My radio has a music and news playlist that I downloaded from multiple sources, mostly the Pearl Harbor attack and Churchill and Roosevelt speeches.

Re: Remember!
I remember that day, vividly. I was only 10 at the time. We went through a lot of sacrifices during the war. I wonder, do we have that same sense of patriotism and sense of right and wrong that the greatest generation displayed? I somewhat doubt it. God help us.

Re: Remember!
My last two year in the USN were on board a destroyer home ported at Pearl. When in port, we mustered on the fantail and had a view of the Arizona Memorial. Walk in that memorial and view the names on the wall. Much like the other war memorials we have in our country. Freedom is not free.

Once the history channel stops covering WW II it will all be forgotten, just like other wars as time passes and history is revised to be politically correct. There's already a shortage of volunteers and it's going to get much worse. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...tail&FORM=VIRE Last edited by 19Fordy; 12-07-2022 at 03:46 PM. |

My dad(rip) was wounded on Guadalcanal and spent 2 yrs. in and out of the hospital. When I asked him if he had any regrets, he said "no, why should I?" Here's to the greatest generation let us never forget!

Re: Remember!
My feelings tell me that parents have let the media control the discourse. Before TV folks would converse with each other more. They sat in the parlor ( a word whose origin comes from the French word to speak ) TV quashed the opportunity to talk during programs.
Today the contact in most homes is minimal. My favorite bumper sticker says: "There is no hope, but I might be wrong"

Re: Remember!
My dad served in Italy and North Africa and got a Bronze Star while in Italy. Wife's dad and his 3 brothers all served in WWII (two in the Air Force, one in the Navy and one in the Army). There is a definite lack of patriotism in this country today. Most all of my male teachers in school were veterans and they knew how to teach real history. I'll stop right here as I don't want to get political and comment on today's education system.

Love the picture!
My great uncle served in the Pacific, did a lot of island hopping. I need to find out more about him, I know he was on Betio Island for sure. |

Re: Remember!
Though to young to have experienced WW2 years I will always be mindful of the sacrifice made by so many on this day 81 years ago in Pearl Harbor.
Thank you to all who served and are serving in the name of Freedom. Paul J. |

Re: Remember!
We definitely owe our freedom to the GREATEST Generation of brave
men and women who sacrificed a lot and endured much hardship, so that we get to reap the rewards of freedom. I am so glad that i've gotten to experience owning and driving some very thrilling high performance cars because of this generation who have mastered so much knowledge,,,Thank You .

Re: Remember!
I always remember December 7th 1941 and also Anzac day April 25th and Remembrance day 11th November here in Australia. Anzac day here is very well attended but not December 7th 1941 so much. Always seem to watch the movies or documentaries on those days. RIP. Regards, Kevin.

Re: Remember!
The memorial in Hawaii is something every American should see. To look down into the water and see the remains of the USS Arrizon, sure does bring home the horror of that day. It was a fitting decision to leave those sailors, who lost their lives that day, interned on their ship. That is where they belong.

Re: Remember!
I spent 5 years in Asia 79-84 working the various refugee camps as an INS officer. Went to visit many WWII graves in the PI, Burma, etc. The gravestone that is one of the toughest on me emotionally is the one in Burma that reads, “An Australian Soldier, About 20”.
