Default Distributer rebuild

A while back I came across someone on here that rebuilds the old Ford V8 distributes. Any suggestions? Or do I just clean up what I have and go with it? Of course I would put in new points& condenser.

Guess it depends on your experience and dizzy you working with. Always best to have access to the right tools to dial it in.

Thanks, I remember messaging with someone a while back that specialized in these but wasn't ready at the time and now I can't find it.

Helps to know what dizzy you are talking about.

Not to be rude... but this makes little to no sense to me. If you go to your sent messages it'll show whom you sent it to. Less you deleted it. But you would have to know to go to sent messages to check.

But are you asking where should I have it worked on? or if you can rebuild it?

There are two guys I know of on here that do this; "BUBBAS IGNITION" and "Charlie NY". At the present time, I believe that Bubba is not taking on any new work due to health problems. You didn't mention the type of distributor ("helmet", "crab", "rabbit ear", or "Load-a-Matic") which may make a difference. Also, I believe "Skip" in Florida may do some of this type of work.

You should at least specify the type of distributor.

I did find the thread I was looking for. It was Bubbas. In that thread there was a link to his website which helped me to identify what I have. It appears to be a Loadamatic diecast aluminum.

Cliff Green, listed in V8 Times, did a great job of restoring my distributers. His phone # is 703-346-1458

Find a shop with a distributor machine. That will allow exact setting of the dwell, check of the advance, and whether the bushings and shaft are in suitable condition. Many shops no longer have a machine. so check around your area. At our shop we keep our Sun machine busy. Many shops have never seen or worked on a contact point distributor since they were replaced by electronic systems.

Third Generation Automotive in Tennessee ( Michael Driskell) is very good at rebuilding EFV-8 distributors.

msstring, I have a lot of work from CharlieNY on my '36. Trans, rear, carbs, dizzys, fuel pumps. All of it top notch. You've made a good choice.

I can also second JM 35's shout out of Michael Driskell, he's 35fordtn here on the 'Barn. I've got one of his 11a helmet units, and a fuel pump from him on my 35.
