1935 Ford grille question
There is a hole on each side of the grille, about half way up, where the grill attaches to the side panel just next to the horns. what type of bolt or screw goes there since there is no way to get to the back side for a nut? Should there be a caged nut on the grille?

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
Got one off the car and will go look but don't remember any caged nuts on the grills at all, if I remember correctly it is a Pan Head slotted machine screw, I think the way to get the nut on and off if the radiator is on the car was to remove the splash pan from the bottom of the grill (the one that fills the void between the crank-hole apron and grill) and reach up between the rad and the grill and tighten/loosen the screw that way. Is it the screw that is under the hood corner??? If so its a Pan Head slotted.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
My 35 has a pan head screw, lockwasher, and square nut . The nut is easily accessable from the backside.

My original '35's are exactly as Don R. posted above.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
There is no way to get to the nut from behind on mine, the radiator and hood latch is in the way. I will try and remove the splash pan and see if I can come up from the bottom.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
That's it and it looks the same. I still can't see how to install the nut unless you reach up from the bottom.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
As I recall, on the re-assembly of ours, I didn't have any problems like your describing, other than DO NOT tighten any one bolt, leave them some what loose till you get ALL the screws in, then tighten them all. It seems to me we even had to loosen a few of the side panel bolts too, to make sure and have enough maneuvering room to get all the panels, grill etc etc aligned.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
Here's another shot with my hand and fingers going under the radiator wing and my fingers touching the back of the pan head screw/washer/bolt assembly. You should have clearance.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
Don, the flange on my grill, where your fingers are, butts up to the radiator with not enough opening for my fingers. I guess my only option is to remove the pan and go up from the bottom of the grille.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
The bracket on the side of your radiator, that fastens to the top of the inner fender panel, and has a provision for front hood latch, looks different than any I have ever seen on a '35. I will attach some pictures of two of my '35 radiators showing these brackets.

Re: 1935 Ford grille question
What does the bracket on the other side look like? I agree with John, your bracket looks a little strange.
