I need to talk to someone that has a dual carb intake on a 21 stud
Thought I found a intake that I could use. 2 issues that I have are that the intake slot for the gen is 3/16 larger than the gen. The other is the fan pulley is a 1/2 more towards the rad than the other pulleys. What gives guys I cann't find a intake that works.

There are different intakes for flatheads. Are you certain you have the right one for your engine. Go to speedwaymotors.com, or call them at 800-979-0122, they can get you the right one for your engine.

Re: I need to talk to someone that has a dual carb intake on a 21 stud
Do you have a stock manifold you could put on to check the alignment? If it all lines up, there is indeed a problem with that Edmunds. The extra width shouldn't be a problem but the forward offset probably is. I have an Edmunds that is broken where the generator mounts, I wonder if yours was the the same and has been repaired and ended up being built out somewhat?
Could the front of the manifold be cut back? By the way, I like the look with the tall risers. Just also wanted to add that as far as I know, 21 stud (later pump in block) are the same as 24 stud 59A as far as pulley alignment goes, in other words, any manifold should fit and align ok. I'm guessing that pump in block and pump in head 21 studs should also be the same so it does look like there is indeed something wrong with your manifold. Mart. |

I bought an Offy from speedway and works fine, if you can't get yours to work I would recommend it.

Cooler carbs
Better mixing Maybe some ram effect Looks Carbs can peer over generator better 8^) Prolly no real advantage tho' Jack E/NJ |

I've got a few performance intakes hanging on my wall and If I remember right at least on has a narrower groove for the gen. i'll try to remember to look at that tomorrow. Walt

I have a copy of John Lawsons book with him building a flathead and doing 400+ dyno runs in the process and hp was gained with the risers.
I cut the mount off a old gen and made one with the right width and welded it as close to the front as possible. It does line up with the other pulleys now. It seems to be strong enough. I guess ill find out. |

Nice work! Let us know how it works when run.
Q- when welding on gen like that, any chance of damage to electrical internals |

Re: I need to talk to someone that has a dual carb intake on a 21 stud
Well, I hope it's ok, but isn't the generator front cast iron? Will it take the weld ok?
It is quite highly stressed even in stock form, I wonder if the material is like a cast steel like the steering boxes, and hence weldable. Good luck with it. Does the manifold look modified at all? Mart. |

Bedford,
You are in luck.....the gen pokes out 1/2"....here's what I'd do. Remove the intake after you absolutely have confirmed you need the gen 1/2" further back, drive it up to me and I'll mill the gen channel deeper and to the correct width to trap the gen bracket. This assumes there is enough meat on the nose of the intake. This stuff happens all the time. Charlie ny |

Re: I need to talk to someone that has a dual carb intake on a 21 stud
I didnt do any welding with the gen intact it was disasembled. It took a good weld and seems pretty dang strong 3/8 steel with a 2 1/2x3 square washer. This was not my first choice but there is no material on the intake to remove. I have ordered another intake that the sales rep said I could easily remove 3/16 and I have more gen brackets laying around that I could also remove 3/16 from. But runs good with .042's and gen bracket looks soild when running.
