Default Tie rod ends

I just finished changing the clutch plate on my 53' 8N.
I had to cut into the boot to hold one tie rod stud while removing the nut.
The boot was made of leather and was most likely original.

Were the factory tie rod end boots on the early V8 cars
and trucks made of leather ???
