Default Flathead coil v8

What should the range be on the primary and secondary side of the coil?

Primary is usually .6 ohms and the secondary will vary from 5,000 to 8,000 ohms........

You might be alright cold. Get it rebuilt by Skip here. You will not regret it. At least for me.

ALL old Ford coils read good when cold and ALL old Ford coils read BAD when hot, even brand new old stock ones. They had this problem since the cars were new. I remember when I was a little kid the engine stalling on a hot night several times waiting in line for the ferry boat coming back from the shore. The problem is the insulation on the wire and the paper was not able to take the heat. Skip uses high temperature modern materials in his coils and are not effected by the 220 degree the coils run at. A week condenser can have the same symptoms as a bad coil. In 25 years NO ONE has ever paid Skip to fix a bad coil except those that let the ignition switch on. G.M.

Everyone is giving you good advice. The original early Ford coils, either used or nos, are suspect for shorted windings, especially under heated conditions. I don't know of anyone other than George "Skip" Haney who rewinds/rebuilds these coils with modern, high temperature insulation materials.
I drive my avatar '35 fordor sedan as much as possible, and I wouldn't leave the end of my driveway without one of his coils on my car. I also carry one in with my spare parts, just incase I do something dumb like forgetting and leaving the ignition switch on for an extending period of time when the car is unattended, or if someone traveling with me has a coil failure.

I keep seeing references to Skip Haney but no one ever gives information about who he is and how to contact him. Who is he? How do you contact him? Inquiring minds want to know.
