Default Transmision input shaft

got a question! what is the most wear tolerance you can get buy with on the input shaft where it goes in to the pilot bearing? the tip end of the input shaft has some wear, not bad but you can see & feel it when you try the bearing on it. I have had worse on later model cars, but they had brass bushings instead of bearings. I am in the transmission & now would be the time to replace it if it needs to be, don't want a problem of jumping out of 3 rd gear. don't really want to spend the money but I don't want too take it out again.

Your better of to sleeve the end. Shrink it on and turn it down to speck.

Tom, do you know if the sleeve needs to be case hardened? Is mild steel acceptable? Does bushing or bearing play into that?

Your opinion?
