Has anybody found a easy way of removing hinge pins from early ford trucks and cars of the 30s ??? I can't use heat..

Get a pin punch slightly smaller than the diameter of the hinge pin. A carefully aimed swat with a hammer should do the job. You don't want to just tap it. Doing so will expand the tip of the hinge pin and make removal even more difficult. It will need a really good hit.

On the other hand, there may be tools specifically designed for that job.

I have used a hinge pin removal tool and it can still be difficult! I soaked the pin in penetrating fluid and tightened the tool as tight as possible and then wait (lot of waiting). Soak the pin, hit the adjuster hard and tighten the tool. In my case it took several days.

OK. OK. I read all the previous pin removal tips which weren't successful

Then I realized their is a NEW way of heating and removing studs and bolts

that is a induction electric heater tool. It has a coil loop on the end about 5/8" in diameter, you just lower it over the pin head (or stud), squeeze the trigger for a few seconds and then the whole pin or stud is heated internally without any damage to paint or threads, then you can push the pin out with any conventional pin remover.

The only problem is you are going to have to borrow this induction heater tool
as I think they cost $400. !!

I believe heating the pin will expand it making it even more difficult to remove. If heat is used anywhere it should be it should be applied to the hinge body and not the pin.

I agree with earlyride. Also, as soon as you are done heating start to remove the pin before the heat transfers to the pin. If you take too long & the pin gets hot & expands just stop & let everything cool down. Then repeat the process. From a retired millwright.

On the EV8 club Forum page there is an active thread on this subject with a pic of a home made pin removal tool, easy to duplicate. FWIW

the reason to heat the pin is for it to expand, hopefully pushing the rust and crud out with it, then after it cools, it shrinks and allows a little clearance that you didnt have before. you must let it cool completely, and then some penetrating oil can reach into the new clearance
