What us the difference between Model A brake drum and hydrolic brake drum for a Model A?

I meant to say Brake drums.

diameter, shoes and backing plates for starters. They are are larger in diameter then the A stuff.

Also, the A drum is steel, and the hydraulic drum is cast iron.

In mid 31 Ford went to cast iron drums The original spoked cast iron front drums were made as one piece with the hubs . The original cast rear drums mostly looked like the new cast rear drums . The original Cast drums were what we use to call cast steel, they would usually bend rather than crack like some of the cast iron drums sold now . I've never cracked or bent any of them . The new cast iron drums are fine for me , if I was buying new .

The brake system on the A is 60 percent on the rear and 40 percent on the front, when the rears lock up the front will still turn with force,

Hydraulic brakes are just reverse, the shoes in the front are larger and the fronts are 60 percent and the rears are 40 percent.

If you are re-doing your brakes I would suggest you use cast iron drum for mechanical or hydraulic.

I'm using 1942 hyd . yes the drum is larger & my brake shoes are only for 1942
