Firewall date stamp
Is the firewall date stamp Day Month Year or Month Day Year? Or did it come in both styles?

Re: Firewall date stamp
Steve Plucker's study only speaks to the mm/dd/yy firewall stamping, no mention of the other way around. In the study he asks for anyone with information to contact him. If you have what you think is the dd/mm/yy let him know.

Re: Firewall date stamp
Mine is on the engine side of the firewall, above the steering column, and just above the fuel tank seam, and a little outboard..the nut you can just see in the picture is the most outboard on the drivers side.
Steve Plucker's site has more specific information...that's how I found out about it.... http://www.plucks329s.org/studies/studies_firewall.html I was pointing at something else in this picture but this is pretty close...

Re: Firewall date stamp
I work in accounting, paying bills. It gets really confusing when the invoice date is something like 6/5/15. Is that May 6th or June 5th. I have to look at where the invoice originated since many of our suppliers home office is in the UK, but have offices in the USA.

Re: Firewall date stamp
My 1928 Roadster Pickup is missing the Stamp. Engine dates it November 1928 ASSUMING it's the Original Engine.

Mine has a 8-8-29 date. MIKE (mikeburch)
I have a 1929 Briggs Fordor with a date stamp of 8-21-29. The engine number is 2,270,076 which is a 9/06/29 engine build date. I believe the latest number referenced on Steve Plucker's site is 8-23-1929. Ray |

Re: Firewall date stamp
I read somewhere( probably Steve Pluckers site) that the stamp had to do with the tank assembly date....so when they changed to tanks that fit under the cowl instead of the early ones that were part of the cowl and firewall, they stopped stamping....
And, like everything, not all were stamped..... My frame serial number date puts it at a 1/29/29 assembly, and the tank is a 1/21/29 as shown above...

Re: Firewall date stamp
It's my understanding the tanks stopped being stamped about September 1929.
If anyone has seen a later date stamp it would be good to hear of it. |
It's my understanding the tanks stopped being stamped about September 1929.
If anyone has seen a later date stamp it would be good to hear of it.
September 1929 is the latest I have recorded. That would be nice! The thing with Bob's dated tank is that it has "dashes" between the numbers. 4-6-28...Hs anyone seen later tanks with "dashes" between the numbers and if you have one could you please post a photo of it? This is the only one I know of. Thanks. Pluck |
