I thought about that but then found this booklet that apparently shows how to flow test them and how to adjust the flow for my particular motor. My thinking being that, while these engines were all created equal when they were new, they are no longer equal. Some are bored out, some have more/less compression etc so optimum flow would have to be dialled in for a particular engine. Also, I think it will be fun to do. If this little project fails I can always go with the pre flow tested jets after.

It seems that carburetor issues, seem to be a large portion of these posts. I don't' seem to remember that carburetors were such an issue back then, or maybe it is just my memory isn't that good any more.

Being a hobby these days instead of a prime mode of transportation, we are more of perfectionists.

Maybe back in the day, as long as it started and ran people put up with a lot more?

Make do, versus perfection.

I fixed the exhaust leak and took it for another rip, about 10 miles. Checked the temp when I got back, 170 degrees and the motometer was just starting to show at the bottom. Put the vacuum gauge on it and it's pulling 18 inches at full retard. I can gain about 1/2 inch with 4 clicks of advance. Would like a little better but not TOO bad. It still has a slight intermittent miss that shows on the vac gauge. When it cools I will pull the plugs and recheck the gaps. Still runs best with the GAV out 2 full turns.

Dont be too fussed if you get a coolant weep at the head block juncture . Most of my engines do this slightly, only down side it can spoil the paintwork !!! I have a weeping engine that has 68 PSI on all cylinders . I dont go above 60 foot pounds torque .

John in rain showers Suffolk County England .
