It should not be SHINY black. Should be raw metal grayish color until it heats up a few times and then it will be rusty. You can get it porcelain coated but I do not know who does that.

I used a coating some years ago that came from Eastwood. Sandblast your manifolds, the paint them with the product. You must then heat them up slowly for a few cycles of heating and cooling, a little hotter each time, to cure the paint. If you just heat them right up to temp the paint will just burn off. This coating has a very glossy black finish.

Thanks for the comments. Nobody does porcelinizing any more - illegal? I used a Mac Auto grey paint for the V8-60 shown in my avatar. It sprayed on easily and had not discolored. It looks like fresh iron as you can see.

The shiny black is an attempt to replace the porcelin on a 1930 Packard.

I use Rustoleum engine paint. Stuff is durable and has a nice semi gloss sheen.

Most powder coaters offer a high gloss black high temperature option for exhaust parts. It's a viable option for the porcelain coatings used on many classic-era cars such as Lincolns and Packards.

I second the powder coating. I had an intake manifold powder coated gloss black years ago. It has held up perfectly and still retains a nice shine. It was for an off topic engine but I was very happy with the results.

That is the correct link to Eastwood that Henry posted. I looked at the products show but nothing rings a bell. Whatever I bought from them was about 20 years ago. You might check with Eastwood's tech dept. and see what they might have sold back then. Probably something that was taken off the market for one reason or another. If you have ever used POR15, this stuff looks like it, high gloss, hard coating.

Cap's is the place. I have had them do cast manifolds, headers, intakes, etc. Great people to work with and they stand behind their product. The old Eastwood stuff used to hold up good, but the new stuff doesn't last at all. You might try POR 15, but when it's all said and done Cap's or a similar coating process is the way to go. A few bucks more , but it lasts forever.
