Default Steering Column Support Bracket questions

Does anyone have a photo to share of the dash-mounted steering column support bracket that will fit this truck and replace the column support attached to my gas tank?

In the photos shown at Mac's it does not show just how the piece is actually mounted onto the dash. I assume that cars and the 82-b pickup would have it mounted the same on the dash, but never having seen one mounted, I do not know for sure. It looks as if there are 3 holes to the bracket, so I was wondering if they aligned to the dash okay or if some modification was necessary at all?

(I didn't include photo of lower piece and anti-rattle pad, but I'll be ordering them, too).

With me having issues in getting in and getting out of the cab, it makes sense for me to replace this support piece before I get a leak from pulling on the steering wheel as I exit the cab.

Thanks for any input.

Check out this thread and the several that are referenced therein:

If your truck is a 30-31, it should be pretty straight forward.
The 29's are a little more involved, but doable.

Leave the instrument panel undisturbed. Remove the dash panel. The small bolts across the top of the tank are the anchor bolts for the new colomn support. Only the two back holes are used. The easiest adaptation is to use a 1/4" thick piece of steel plate. The plate has its own holes drilled to pair with the tank top bolts, and an additional pair of holes to meet the column support. Some minor variences exist, but the point is, this will drop the column enough to clear the original tank mount. The result is a very stout and stable mounting with no stress on the tank. My application was on my '29 pick up
Also, the repo mount is very rough compared to originals. I would sand and file it to reasonable nice surface and paint before final mounting. They look pretty rough otherwise. I bought an original off ebay that was real nice.

Thanks for the info and links as I am a truly visual person when it comes to learning new tricks and such. :-)

The photos in the links did the trick for me on this subject.

Someone had added the dash mount to my 29 Tudor before I bought the car. I only glanced at the upper mounting once a few years ago, but it looked like they mounted it just as Russ said with an extra steel plate so no extra holes needed to be drilled in the dash. If I restore the car I'll most likely remove it and go back to the original bracket.

I added the one pictured above to my 29 CCPU. No problem drilling new holes. On the 29 the lip is too narrow for the center 3rd hole. I did not use it and believe me it is very strong with the 2 bolts holding it. I took the bottom strap off the tank bracket and cut trimmed the rubber gasket. Looks good and no more pressure on the gas tank. I could go back to org. if someone wishes.

When I was looking at the photos of the parts I had posted, that was my initial concern that the lip would be too narrow. Thus my original questions. Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know if you can change the angle of the steering column on a Victoria? Mine has the drop bracket, and for more leg room it would be nice to move the steering wheel up about an inch!

You don't want to just lift the steering wheel without easing the pressure down at the steering box. Doing that would mean elongating the bolt hopes in the chassis where the bolts that hold the steering box go. I'd be very wary of doing that because flexing of the chassis as you drive (Model As have a very flexible chassis) might loosen the bolts. Loose steering box mounts is a common cause of steering wobbles also known as the "Death Wobbles". Don't ask how I know that!!
What do others think?

That's something I hadn't thought about before, but if the frame has sag at the rear motor mounts, that would lower the steering wheel a little. So, I'd start by making sure the frame is straight. I also don't like the idea of elongating the steering mounting holes.
