Ok, I bought this truck for $4700.00 . They told me it was tore apart in 1970! ( While I was in Viet-nam) The guy that took it apart, got it back together, up to the point of trying to start it! At that point he passed away!
It sat in a garage for 45 years! Then this guy , ME comes along and buys it! I did not even know how to try to start it, After much head scratching and trials and failures, She is running!!! Sounds great! runs cool and carries 8 pounds of oil pressure! Now for the point!!!! How do I put the body together? Cab first, fenders first! Start at the fount and work my way back??? Any tips, hints, things to look out for. This thing came with a lot of boxes full of parts .new and used.
and a crapload of extra parts Fenders. doors radiator hoods to name a few.
also a full set of extra wheels Any advice would be helpful! This is my first attempet

at an OLD car!!!

First off, just where are you located?

Once that is known, maybe there is a MARC or MAFCA Model A Ford club near you.

If so, join the club and get to know the Model A'er's as I am certain that someone just might have a Closed cab that can help you out.

You might want to contact Neil Wilson in the Double A Club. Those cabs were also used with the Model AA Fords.

Marco has a "tutorial" that you might want to view but do not know how to access it.

There are no books that give you a detail, step by step, assembly of the cab itself.

Lot's of good advice from Steve above , There will be Model A people near to you so post your location . I have some near me and I live in England .

Don't throw away any of those boxes of parts ! often the original are better than what you can buy today
You will be able to swap spare parts for things that you need.

First, bolt the splash aprons on., then bolt the cab on.

The rest will add like a jigsaw puzzle.

I live in upstate NY, I am already heading in the direction that you guys suggested. went to the library and barrowed every book they had. no help on the body.

First of all welcome! Second, the body generally goes like this: splash apron/fenders first and then running boards. Then body and then bed/fenders. Once everything is together then you get to shim the body so the doors will close properly and line up. Which will then let the hood line up.

I have a 29 pickup, which is almost exactly like a 28 pickup. I have it apart now to weld up rust holes and sandblast the sheetmetal parts. I took a fair number of pictures of when I dismantled it. If you have specific areas you are concerned with, I can send you some pictures. The cab isn't a real complicated assembly, but there are tricky parts when reassembling it. There is a good section in Les Andrews Mechanics Handbook, Vol II, starting on page 3-3. The 9 page section shows how the wood is installed along with the fasteners needed. If you don't have his book, I can photograph the pages and email them to you, if you send me your email address. There isn't a lot of wood in a pickup cab, but it is very important to the construction of the cab.

First of all, Thanks for the help ! I have two Les Andrews books. Did not see the assembly diagrams! The cab is all together. there are the fenders, running boards, splash guards and box parts. wasn't sure where to start. just need guidance and any suggestions. I do not know how to post photos yet.

Start by laying the frame welting on top of the frame. Let it set taped to the frame at each end for a couple days, then mark and punch the holes. The splash apron goes on the welting, then the wood body blocks, then the cab.

This book helps - but leaves you scratching on some of the details.

Covers both CC and RPU - you can learn a lot from the pix.

Thanks for you're help guys ! I have that book, I bought a truck that was already taken apart, And I was not sure what order the parts got put back on the frame! Check out my photos to see what I am dealing with!
I have always built muscle cars! This is my first attempt at an older vehicle ! I am learning as I go!
