Default Cowl lacing replacement style

I just received my cowl lacing kit from Snyders. The 1/2" can be cut to rivet to both sides of the cowl. No problem....works like radiator shell lacing.

The question I have is about the 5/8" lacing for the front of the gas tank. There is no wire in the replacement style lacing, so I am puzzled as to how to attach it. The cowl lacing hook has nothing to hook to.

it appears you have the wrong cowl lace. the 30-31 which you have, is bigger and does not have the wire. Bratton`s show the correct one that you should be using.

That cowl and tank sure look like a 28-29 to me. To the OP, I'm going to patiently wait for the new owner of Roy Nacewicz Enterprises gets back online and hopefully has the correct lacing and fender splash apron welt.

My coupe is 1929. This lacing is what Snyders lists for 1928-1929:

A-16740-ARE 1928-29 Replacement, Contains 36" of 5/8" wide lace and 42" of 1/2"
A-16740-AOR 1928-29 Original, Contains 36" of 1/2" wide lace and 40" of special hollow 1" flat lacing.

It also says The original style uses a stainless wire to hold lacing down over the gas tank....

I have the replacement style, but it doesn't say how to attach the piece over the gas tank!

The idea is to attach the lacing to the front bottom of the gas tank, pull as tight as you can, and then tighten with the threaded hook you have in front of the hood hinge. I've never used the replacement style. The original style works well.

That’s what the date on the firewall indicates

Tomorrow I will try to figure out how to attach the lacing to the bottom of the gas tank. I will try some rivets or small machine screws. The threaded hook maybe I can drill a hole in the lace in the middle and attach it some way. I am even thinking I could glue the lace around the tank. I am just surprised that no instructions came with the replacement style lace. Stay tuned. I will update when I get it installed.

This was the choice when I did this. I did two, one with the flat lacing held with contact cement (and followed by the loose wire) and the other with the wire in the lacing - which is how it was originally.

Both worked. If you're into fine point go for the latter, otherwise for function the first will do.

Joe K: Since my car lost its fine points decades ago, never to return, I like the idea of contact cement for both lacings. I am wondering what you refer to as the "loose wire".
It would seem to be redundant if the lacing is glued down.

This true, but the wire came with the kit - was designed to be used with the webbing along with no glue. So I used it - "For appearance."

Weldwood is my contact cement of choice.

How many casual observers would see it and know the difference? How many non-casual restorers would look and go "oh- you did it that way."
