Help, can anyone tell me what drum is this???
I have a 9inch Ford differential with no history and in need of rear brake drums. The specs on it are: 11 inch inside diameter, 2.25 in. brake surface, 5 lugs on 4.5 inch, total height of drum is 3.25 inches and an axle opening of 2 & 7/16inch. I have searched with two different parts houses and researched online to no avail. The rear of the differential has a dimple on either side and the total width from inside backing plate to plate is 51 +/-inch. Evidently a early and mid size Ford but that is all I have. A friend of mine said he had one that size for a 1957-8 Ford but it seems that those drums are unobtainable. Help ????

Does the axle assy still have the foundation brakes, backing plates, shoes?
Can you give shoe width?

Re: Help, can anyone tell me what drum is this???
The '55/56 rear brake drums are 11" dia x 2-1/4" depth and 4-1/2" B.C., but I don't think they fit on a '57 thru 59 rear end for some reason.
Anybody else know??? |

Is the metal I.D. tad still bolted to the 3rd member drop out carrier? If so, it will have the model car, gear ratio, and other info on it. If you have it , post the #'s and letters here and I am sure that someone has the proper books to decode the info.

OK...
I have taken my Geritol (w/ iron) and let me see if that brings me back into close Earth orbit ... The brake size you are describing seems to be for a 63 FORD. No guarantee, but is close. P/N C3AZ 1126-B. C3AZ 1126-A may also work. GOOGLE both PN's. Also FMS drums shown.

An old T-bird I used to have had some rather wide brake shoes but I don't remember how wide they were. It may have still been a Dana but I think it was a 9". Galaxie 500 and Mercury Monterey or Marauder maybe?

Re: Help, can anyone tell me what drum is this???
Do the drums have any "cooling fins" on them? I have a 9" Diff. from an early '70's LTD with brakes approx. the size you are describing. unfortunately, it is at my brothers shop 50 miles away, so I cannot verify the size of the shoes, but they are 11" or bigger
