Next time carry a box of donuts.

Actually the cop is right, and you should buy regular plates if you drive it every day.

Our cars look very similar. Am I going to be hassled by the police if I drive through your town? .

A chance for a rant, I cannot resist. It's really a shame that this officer had nothing better to do like pulling over and ticketing every fool texting and talking on their mobile phone while driving, something which really has an impact on the driving public. Here in New Jersey (don't laugh) there are laws with hefty fines regarding this but they are not enforced, consequently I always see people doing this with impunity everywhere I drive. I would have been tempted to point that out to the officer if I had been warned about such an innocuous meaningless infraction and yes I would probably have received a ticket but it would have been worth it.

Just Curious ...

What kind of insurance do you have ?

Is it limited use or full time ?

Wow those are close. Yeah you'd get pulled over for sure. It's a very important law you know.

Tell them that you are participating in a small educational exhibition.

Carry a few flyers describing describing the history of the Model A and put them on a small stand with a sign saying literature when you park the vehicle.

Then carry a copy of the law with "exhibition" highlighted so the cop can find the operative word.

You might even get the local newspaper to run an article on the "local car nut" that wants to educate us on the history of the Model A Ford.

Almost forgot - get a funny hat so people know the you are the "nut"

My concern would be if you were in an accident, even if it was the other guys fault. If a cop has noticed the frequency in which you drive your car, others have also. Wouldn't be difficult for an insurance company to verify that you were driving outside of the constrictions of your registration and refuse coverage since you had no legal authority to be where you were.

Illinois has been very good to me in regards to our antique cars. I have been driving antique Fords since 1971 and have never been pulled over or harrassed in any way. The police have always been very friendly they will wave and give you a thumbs up a lot of the time.

I guess they figure anybody who drives these old cars is being very careful and we sure aren't speeding.

I run YOM plates on two of the cars, I carry the up to date Ant. Vehicle plates in the cars with me. I've never had a problem with the cops.

Illinois IS an antique car friendly state, Jesse White (Sec. of State) likes the old iron himself he is quite a guy!

You must be running antique tags here in Missouri laws about the same as in Idaho with the exception that you are allowed 500 miles a year for pleasure that's what I just bought regular license plates

In Ohio you pay for the Historical plates one time only. Your able to take the car on a ride for a picnic or maybe to the dairy queen once in a while and car shows and club functions but when you take it out everyday to go to the store or wherever that's when you could get into trouble. I know a guy that drove his "A" everyday to work. He got picked up one morning and fined and got his car towed. He purchased regular Ohio plates after that. This was in the late 70's and not sure if the law has changed any since then.

Talking Re: Just got pulled over for driving too much!

I suppose it is all up to the officer and his disposition on any certain day.
I was once stopped given a warning ticket for DWEC ! That IsRIVING WHILE EATING CHICKEN ! I had been working hard all day and was driving back home about sundown and i guess i wobbled a little and he stopped me to see if I was drinking. He actually wrote the warning ticket out and I kept it for years ! Sure was tasty fried chicken!

I say keep the Trump sticker but get regular plates and then they can't hassle you. It can't be that much. You can then drive it whenever you like but still be in compliance with the insurance unless you are using it as a daily use vehicle.

Michigan has about the same restrictions for the historical or YOM plates. For the most part it's been the individual officer. In our city we had a police lieutenant who looked for unusual laws and apparently came across the historical plate. He would nail anyone seen driving regularly. One time he pulled over a member giving his brother-in-law a ride. Funny the brother in law was a Florida state trooper. Even went so far as to threaten to confiscate his plate which is not in the law. Some switched to regular plates but the catastrophic fund charge on insurance is more than triple. Well a year or so later the problem went away when the lieutenant died from a heart attack on the job. Later I had the sheriff's transportation division officers attend a club meeting to explain the law. One of our members who was a Michigan State Police sargent suggested not to open a can of worms. The sheriffs said they wouldn't stop anyone unless there was some serious issue as they had more important problems to deal with. So it's basically back to the individual officer.

Sounds like unfortunately your on their personal s*** list for some reason... time to get standard plates unfortunately hopefully it doesn't transpire to your face name and modern cars (AKA watch your back cross your T's and dot your I's everywhere you drive)
