The A-17017 Spark Plug and Cylinder Head Wrench...
OK...I have been inventoring all of my Model A tool items as described in Section 17, Revised 2016 of the MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards.
I have a few A-17017 Spark Plug and Cylinder Head Wrenches of the 9/16" hex head type (October 1928 thru production). On the back side of these wrenches have an "M" in the center of a circle for the Moore Drop Forging Company. Toward the 9/16" hex head end of the wrench are numbers which indicate a forging batch I guess. These numbers range from 3-45. My question then...were there any wrenches, that you may have in your collection, that have a number greater than 45 on these wrenches with the 9/16" hex head thickness? NO...I do not plan to do any research on this...I just find it interesting! My guess is that when the company went from a 3/4" to a 9/16" hex head thickness...they started the "batch" numbering all over again because I have the early one with the 3/4" hex head thickness with a 10 on it. Steve, just looked in my tool box and my wrench has the # 50 in addition to the Moore logo.

Thanks Doug!
I wonder if this number can go any higher? It would be kind of neat to know just how many "batches" were actually done and how many wrenches per batch...But I ain't going there. Pluck |

The number is not related to "batch"
It is simply the forging die number. During quality control inspection of finished wrenches, if there was a problem, it could be traced to a particular die. |
