2 and 3 post turn signal flashers?

I've posted before about turn signal problems on my '53, and I've tried all the suggested solutions to no avail (improving the ground). I have a three post flasher unit installed, but only two leads. Orange/yellow tracer to ignition switch on one lead, and blue wire to harness. The middle post has no wire to it and there's no wire in the harness to connect. What connection goes to the middle post on a 3 post flasher? Is it a ground wire? The shell of the flasher is "grounded" in that it is very securely pushed into the socket to hold the flasher.

My next stop is Rhode Island Wiring to see if they have a 2 prong flasher. If you have further ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks

The third post is for a signal indicator or pilot if the signal switch has one on the stalk.

Flashers are very simple devices, one side connects to a power source (battery) and the other end to a load. The load heats up the flasher and opens the circuit, then it cools and closes. So, the options are: 1. a bad flasher unit, 2. not connected to a power source or 3. it is not seeing a sufficient load.

Some of the reasons it may not be seeing a load is a problem with the turn signal unit or not enough or not the correct type of bulbs. You could check it by connecting a jumper wire from the load side of flasher unit to a toggle switch and then to the tail lights.

Is it a mechanical or an electronic flasher? What is its mfr and model number?

It's a 535 6V flasher... can't recall right now if it's a Tung Sol or Wagner or?

I like the jumper idea and will try it out this weekend.
