Radiator tp frame bolt with spring
How does the assembly go on the bolt that holds the radiator to the frame ?
Where does the spring go ? #1...Is it in between the radiator and frame which would place the bolt thru the Radiator bracket then thru the spring and then thru the frame... #2... or is it on top of the radiator bracket that holds the radiator to the frame ? This would place the bolt thru thru the spring then thru the radiator bracket and the frame. I presume that the spring is supposed to minimize any jolts to the radiator that the front end goes thru on the road...that spring tension is very high so doesn't seem like it would soften the impact very much. |

Re: Radiator tp frame bolt with spring
The springs aren't there to absorb jolts. There are there to allow flexing of the frame and body mounts without forcing the radiator structure to flex. Such flexing of the brass radiator would lead to fatigue cracks and leaks.

Notes: 1.) You'll need the correct thickness of rubber pad between frame and radiator mounting foot, so the height of radiator, at top of tank, is correct where hood hinge mounts. 2.) The castelated nut only needs to be tightened against the spring enough to allow insertion of the cotter pin.
