Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
Holy Cow what a bargain I just found on EBay. A nice set of early 32 Ford steady rods for only 500.00 dollars. Yes folks only 500.00 dollars of your hard earned money.

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
Not to highjack the thread. How do you tell the year of the different year steady rods? Found some that are a shorter length than the ones I removed from the 37. Will post pic's on a different thread sometime next week if all goes well. Rod

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
Charley I think you can search E BAY using Early 32 ford steady rods. The
ad doesn't say if they are for a Four cylinder or a V8. Last edited by jimvette59; 04-08-2014 at 08:45 PM. |

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
The 32 rods don't look anything like the 37. If the short rods do not have threads for bolts to attach them to the frame they may be 33-34, they were attached with bolts and nuts. and are shorter than 37. The later post war rods are longer than 37 rods.

While I could not locate the ebay listing in question, should it be for a pair of rods like the top one shown in the photo, I would not be surprised if they sold for $500 (or more). That version of the '32 V-8 rod was only used for a very short period of time in concert with super early frames and engine blocks (so-called flange blocks). The unique V-8 brackets for those rods that attach to the sides of those "flange" blocks are equally rare and likely also would bring a "crazy" price if a pair were to show up on ebay. |

Dave,
Just paste this # 321359889898 in the ebay search box. The auction title is "1932 FORD FLATHEAD EARLY V8 ENGINE STEADY RODS" Thanks, GOD, I have the slightly later block |

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
I also give thanks that my collection a scrap iron isn't from the early period...
Early '32 problems relate to mainstream '32 stuff about the same as the regular '32 stuff relates to Model A...10X the difficulty and scarcity at every step! |

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
I have a 32 Phaeton in my junk pile that is sn # slightly under 1500 that has the steady rods, brackets and flanged 32 motor. Thats a crazy price for steady rods.

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
Chisel,
Some junk pile! Mine is evidently a bit earlier than yours as it lacks the legs on the center cross member and has a very early firewall (yours appears to be a later firewall). It also was originally RHD then converted to LHD. I'm restoring it as built. Does your phaeton have a body number stamped in on the left side of the #1 body cross sill? It seems as though there are more surviving flange blocks than those early steady rods and unique brackets as many of the blocks had the later brackets and run-of-the-mill steady rods when the V-8 steady rods were moved inboard. The versions in your photos use the attachment location on the center cross member as the did the Model Bs. The mounting holes are vertically aligned and the rods mount on the front of the cross member not on the back ( and not protruding through it like the later rods where the attachment holes are horizontally aligned). It is highly likely that your phaeton was produced at the Dearborn Assembly Plant given that the engine was produced at the Rouge Engine Plant there in the first week of April, 1932. Dearborn was the only U.S. assembly plant building '32s until late April, 1932 when production began at the Edgewater, New Jersey assembly plant. Last edited by DavidG; 04-09-2014 at 01:52 PM. |

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
David, Beautiful Phaeton. Are you going to have it finished for the Early Ford V8 Club Central Meet at Springfield, Illinois in August?

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
I would think the brackets that bolt to the block would be worth more than the rods themselves. Walt

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
Walt,
You're right; with the right diameter steel rod, one could readily fudge the rods. The brackets themselves are another matter (they're forgings). |

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
If you are using this forum to point people to parts you or someone you know is selling, that is pretty weak.

Re: Early 32 Ford Steady rods.
Don't get your panties in a wad I am commenting on the price only. I have nothing to do with this ad. I sold a set of them a while ago for 75.00 and I thought I did great. Please read the other responses. I learned a lot in just a short time. Jim.T.
