Mechanic lock starter motor if 'pre-ignition'
Hallo,
there is a mechanical tool that prevents to push down the starter motor button if it is forgotten to set the ignition to "late". What's, please, is the name of this tool, so I can search it? Thank you very much!

The only such tool I'm aware of is a 'pre-flight- post-flight checklist'.

There was a Gizmo advertised at one time that actually used the spark lever to engage the starter. But I've never heard of what you are referring too. But just because I've never seen it doesn't mean anything!

Re: Mechanic lock starter motor if 'pre-ignition'
There may have been aftermarket gizmos available. Folks came up with all sorts of inventions to sell to Ford owners.

I think that the gizmo that you refer to was the Fulton up start . |

The Up Start is pretty close, but the device I'm remembering mounted under the hood, and had a bell crank like contraption.
When the spark rod was moved to full retard it would engage the starter. Not exactly what the OP was looking for, but I think we are getting closer!! Sent from my E6810 using Tapatalk |

I think the up-start also is linked to the spark lever on the column.

The one from brattons appears to be a rod with a knob that runs up the column. Not completely sure.

Hmm, that contraption is interesting. So those of us that retard our spark at shutdown will now have to put up with the starter spinning all night. [smiley face]

It was for women,so they don't rip a stocking or scuff a shoe toeing the starter button..

Re: Mechanic lock starter motor if 'pre-ignition'
Hallo,
Patrick has right. But sometimes it happens that the late adjustment is forgotten. - It is a mechanism that blocks the foot starter button to push, if the ignition lever is on "early".

Or always retard the spark when returning to idle before shutting off.

Re: Mechanic lock starter motor if 'pre-ignition'
That's all right, and so I do. Almost always.
But it is sometimes forgotten. With my Citroen Traction the retard was forgotten. The startermotor has received such a head stroke that the claw is broken. Therefore, a "early ignition lock" may be useful, I think.
