Default RPU bed

I have a '28 Roadster PU with a bracket on the left side of the bed, does anyone know what it is for?

To add to Bob C. and Brentwood Bob's answers, this bracket was used on the 78-A Pickup Bed from about May 1928 thru October 1928.

It will mount the A-13470-A Tail Light Bracket Support.
