Default windshield hinge gasket??

i posted a few days ago about a whistling problem on my 31 ccpu. i finally found the problem, the welting/seal between the header panel and the top was out of place. i removed the windshield and put the welting back gluing it to the header panel and installed the header panel. now a new problem... i had trouble with the hinge screws before, it seems that the hinge gasket is so thick it wants to hold the hinge foreward causing the hinge screws to either miss the header or just catch the edge. i got the gasket from mike's and should be right. there is not a good way to put backward pressure on the windshield to compress the gasket. this is the top that is one piece with the visor. i wonder about leaving out the gasket or using some thinner material. suggestions please!

yep! i'm using longer screws, but i think part of the trouble may stem from the repop header panel. the repop stuff never seems perfect. i finally cut off the verticle part of the gasket and only used the part between the hinge and the header panel. this let the ws assembly go a little further back. i angled the screws rearward a bit and each one seemed to pull up good. i'm going to git out on the highway tomorrow and see if my whistle is gone.
