Default 36 door handle

OK just got 2 new outer door handles for my 36 and first they have to be cut which I can do even though I ordered for 36Now when I inset the shaft in to the square hole on inside of door I can only turn the handle half way thereby only allowing the striker to be pulled in half way..So do I need to file or machine the cutout about a half inch or so up the shaft. Is there any measurement out there for these operations ??

New parts and you thought they'd fit? I don't do that. I buy real Ford stuff.

Check with the NOS vendors on this website. Off the top of my head third-generation automotive and barnfind08 come to mind,
But there are others. Do a search for “vendor list” there was a recent thread with everybody’s name on it.

The new handles are nice but are a one fits all type of deal. May body styles had different shafts. As your suspicion concludes, you will need to grind the relief on the shaft as the originals had..

If original handles are desired they are out there.

You will need to notch them as the originals. Then when you insert them push in the striker while twisting the handle to get it in and seated properly. There is a pair of NOS advertised in the swap section.

So now that I realize what a mess I have and what I need to do is there by chance any detailed instructions out there as to what to do??Like measurements for instance as if I file or grind out this notch in the shaft in the wrong place or cut it to short the handle would be ruined..Thanks everyone for your help...I guess I thought when ordering a 36 handle that is what I would get but live and learn..
