Default Connecting Exhaust Headers to Muffler

Is there a typical way this is done? The header has a 3-bolt 3" flange with an adapter that takes it down to the 2" pipe. But how is this then connected to the muffler pipe?

cut the pipe to match the length of the collector adapter, then weld it back together.
There is also a wide stainless exhaust connector that fits over both pipes and is clamped with two bolts/nuts. With that one you don't need any welding.. it does not look anywhere near stock, but with the header you are not worried about that.
