Default installing electric fuel pump in'39 piccup

I'm finally getting ready to install an electric duel pump in my '39 pickup.
Suggestions/recommendations, please. I have new copper clad steel line, the pump and pressure regulator. Use a spring loaded-off switch I'm sure. Switch under the dash for use by my right hand? Line clamping locations?
fuse inline?

I would use a relay. A spring loaded toggle switch might be ok, but if you ever need it on for a longer period of time than just priming it might be an issue. I think you can get a switch that is spring loaded one direction and on in the other position.

Don't know why you would ever do that.

I'm expecting to use the pump only for starting or vapor lock. Not so?

I just rigged mine through the start switch on the column. Priming only , but if needed I could leave it on.

If you are just wanting to use it to prime the carb, a straight toggle switch should work fine. Turn it on for a few seconds and then back off. Then you still have the capability to use it for a longer period if the need arises. I would not power it off the ignition switch, but that is me. The switch was not designed for that much load. If you do power it from the ignition then I would definitely use that as the trigger signal for a relay.

What I am using for the same purpose is a lighted on/off toggle switch.
When switched on it is lit to give warning.
It may still work on 6 volts but with less illumination.
Switch is rated at 20 amps.

Some electric fuel pumps will not pass fuel through when turned off. You might want to check yours for this. I put one on my son's car on a by-pass line, with a check valve to prevent back flow. He uses it for priming only.

I have a spring loaded switch in my '41, electric pump was already installed by previous owner. I only hold it on long enough to fill carb.

Clem this is my arrangement on my 39 Peekup, hope it helps and make sure you have Mr. Shewman's flex hose with the check valve, last picture.

I use the switch (second picture, RH toggle) for 2-3 seconds when starting after she has been sitting for several days or weeks.

What fuel pressure do I set the dial to? Can I use rubber hoses near the filter? Do I need a roll over switch? Other issues?...

You need the collision switch if you are using the elec fuel pump while moving. Just to prime, I would say no.

Any hose that comes in contact with fuel must be rated for modern fuel.

The fuel pressure should be around 2.5 psi. If you are using one of the cheap pressure regulators with the round dials I had heard a lot of negative feedback on them. I use the low pressure Holly's.

I'm going to stop on the fuel line problem. The '39 pickup hasn't vapor locked as yet. Another task for another day. I had hoped to drop the truck off of a 6 month nappy on jacks, but yesterday I shorted wires in two places so it is wiring-fix time
Thanks for your help

The danger is if your fuel pump diaphragm tears and leaks, it comes out the bottom housing onto the engine. Now you flip the electric fuel pump on and you have one hell of a fire. Don't use it for a mechanical fuel pump failure, only priming and vapor lock. If your mechanical pump fails, stop the engine and investigate for leaks right away. Diaphragm leaks are becoming more common with alcohol mixed fuel.

I have been running my ‘51 F1 since 2015 without a mechanical pump.
I run the electric pump full time through a cheap toggle switch. No relay.
I like to run the carb dry if the truck is going to sit for a long time. That’s why I even bothered with a switch.
I have the pressure regulator set at 1 1/2 lbs.
I have two cheap pumps on the frame by the left side of the engine.
I use an on off on switch so I can select a pump. One pump that I normally run on draws fuel from a gas line going in the tank from the top that is about 3 inches too short.
If the truck runs out of gas I switch to the other pump that will draw fue right down to the bottom of the tank. That way I have reserve so I can go 20 or 30 miles after I run out of gas or if a fuel pump quits.

Well now, seems to me that idea goes back to the Model A days, maybe even further. No pumps, no second fuel line, just a simple 3 position valve, On, Off, & Reserve. (The On position having a standpipe, when it runs dry, switch over to the Reserve and find a gas station). You could'a also checked in at a motorcycle shop to see what kind of modern reserve valve might suit your fancy.
