Posted an want ad, ever heard of this member....
Anyone ever had any dealings with "Crown gail" or "Stephanie sousie" from California, I posted an ad (for a friend whos computer illiterate) for inner fenders for '35-'36 Ford pickup, not fibreglass. Told they have them, asked for pictures, pics sent of glass fenders no inner panels, asked for pics of inner panels, rec'd, all pics have been copied from catalogs ? Wants payment made to Green Dot Bank, Pasadena CA. Am concerned about pics, Id expect pics of his own pieces, what about payment to bank, any protection ?

Easy - you answered all your own questions (the pictures are from catalogs). I'd run fast and far if it was me! I'd never make out a check to a bank - anybody can go in there and cash the check (who knows who you're really dealing with).

I'd end all conversation with these people and find some at a swap meet that I could hold in my hand before I gave up my money....... Mark

So the person noted me back when I asked if these panels were steel, then I emailed him the following.............. Morning, that’s great, I have been posting this want ad for a friend who's computer illiterate so I want to have him deal with you now that you have what he is looking for, what's your phone number so he can call you, thanks, his name is Rob got the following reply ............. giving you my number is not a problem, I'm a deaf and dumb person, how can we both talk either? better still we cant he text on his cell phone? emailed him the following .......... Wasn't aware of you being deaf/dumb, will pass this along to my friend |

Re: Posted an want ad, ever heard of this member....
Would someone who is deaf and mute refer to themselves as deaf and dumb?
That is really old school and not in use any more. The deaf community uses either "deaf" or "hard of hearing". Last edited by Scott H in Wheaton; 11-17-2016 at 10:46 AM. |

The "deaf and dumb" ruse is just that, a ruse used by CL scammers too. Run, don't walk, away from this guy. Is he in SoCal by any chance?

I've found adding my email address to a want ad is what opens the door for scammers.

Yep, pretty obvious that he/they are not members here but took your E-mail and phone number from the posting.
That's on you for including them.

In this century ...
Craigslist is face-to-face cash. Everything else is Paypal. They earn their 4% and you get to sleep at night. |

I'm pretty sure the deaf and dumb Nigerian princess who contacted me is quite legit. She sounded so sincere. Perhaps I made a mistake by not giving her my bank information. Kicking myself in the ass; I could've been rich.

Re: Posted an want ad, ever heard of this member....
Any time you hear Green Dot Bank, warning sirens should sound. Looking at their website, they are a provider of pre-paid Mastercards. Payments made to accounts in this fashion may be difficult or impossible to retrieve if the parts sale goes sour.
I am pretty much deaf and rely on my iPhone to provide a direct connection to my hearing aids that works great but is less than perfect. In correspondence, I will volunteer my son's contact information if they want to talk to a human being. It's worked so far but only because my son is a fellow collector who gets free car storage from me and he doesn't want me upset. |
