Default 1933 V8 Oil Pressure Check

I just started my car after a couple years and its doesn't want to idle as good as it used to. I've already drained the gas tank and put 5 gallons of fuel that was stored in a plastic container for 6 months. I performed some maintenance during this period which included all new exhaust and dropping / cleaning the oil pan along with a new oil pump screen. Just to be safe - how do you check the oil pressure in a stock V8?

I would install a mechanical pressure gauge to the fitting on the rear driver side of the block (bellhousing area).

Thank you JSerry. Do you know how many #s of pressure I should have when the oil is cold versus hot?

about 50 on start up drops to about 40 cold idle and could be as low as 5 on hot idle, depending upon condition of engine. 15 on hot idle is very nice. Using 10W-40 oil. There are no book values.

See post #8 on this link. It is for a different vehicle, but the information may be helpful.

You want heavy one weight oil. Castrol 50 works good in an
old warn engine. Run some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas to
help free the rings. G.M.
