Default 56 window glass

Where is the best place to get window glass. I am looking at getting tinted glass for the wind wing and doors on my 56. Thanks

I got windshield and both door glasses from Auto city classic. Ad in Fomoco Times. Web site autocityclassic.com. Very happy with them.

I don't know about best but Bob's Classic Auto Glass may be a candidate. They require a call to get what a customer wants in correct tints. In your case, you would need to specify for a sedan delivery (Courier). You won't need any rear side glasses for that. He also has curved windshields and rear glasses if a person ever needs that.

If you have an old piece and it's flat glass, any glass shop can make a copy

Never bought glass from Auto City but I just ordered a disc brake conversion kit from them for my '54 Ranch Wagon. The guy I spoke with on the phone was very knowledgeable and helpful. I haven't received the parts yet but so far my experience with Auto City has been good.

Didn't get tinted because the rear windows, wind wings and rear glass were clear and not being replaced.

I just replaced cracked vent window glass in my '55 Courier last year. Took the glass out myself and took the car to a local auto glass shop. They didn't even need my cracked glass for a cutting pattern. They had all the glass patterns back to eternity (for flat glass). He asked me if I wanted clear or tinted. Remember for flat glass, they can give you just about anything. He also said he could get my flat glass with the Fomoco label like the original. They offer several shades of tinting, but you had better check your state laws. Some states don't allow dark tinted glass.
I had him give me plain un-tinted clear glass so it would match the rest of the glass on the car.

BTW, if you are planning to go with all tinted glass around the car, don't throw away that old windshield. There's only about three junkyard 55/56 cars left in the whole country that still have a good windshield. Someone will buy it.
The windshield on my '55 Fairlane looks like it has been sandblasted for 40 years at night.
And be prepared to pay mucho $$$$$ for a new tinted windshield and rear window.

Do not know it I will be using the original windshield until I clean it up. I have two of them so one should be good but who knows. Here in Ark you can have pretty dark tint on side windows but not on the windshield other then a strip across the top. I do not know about the rear so will have to check on that.

Auto City Classic offers the Ford green tint, which is perfect if the other glass is OG Ford. Look for the Ford logos on the rest of the glass. I got all the door glass for my '59 from them.

It took them 3 shots to get the vent glass straight and they never gave me a shipper to send the wrong ones back. They came wrapped in newspaper in a language I've never seen before. Not Russian or Chinese.

My windshield came from Sanders Repro Glass in Vancouver Washington. It was that Ford green tint and had the darker strip up top for only $9 more. They at the time had the best price and also the shipping was less than anyone else.

I still have the box, marked as HRD Hotrod Glass, so Sanders is a middle man. I decoded where it came from, another country in SE Asia I have never heard of before.

Watch out for glass thickness. I replaced all my side window glass about 15 years ago from the Crown Victoria Association (if I remember correctly). If not from there, it was from Concours Parts. I recently had to replace the passenger side door glass and ordered one from Auto City Classic which was considerably thinner (.243" vs .288"). So, there is quite a bit of slop in the window channel.

Never thought of that. Thanks

A person would have to use thicker glass setting tape.

Even with that I would thing it would not be a tight fit in the channel it rides in.
