Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
I do not know who makes them, but they must be good as I have not been able to sell a very restorable 37 tank. Rod

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
I too just bought a tank for my 35 pickup from Tank's Inc or Yogi's (same address) good price and service. The only difference I noticed was the filler neck is not threaded like the original. Bob Drakes tanks appear to be more like original.

I use Tanks. Just plain easy to deal with. Never had a problem to date.

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
I got my '33 tank from Bob Drake in 2004. Then the year later they offered the same tank with an anti-backwash flap that was supposed to help stop leaking gas from the filler tube. Oh well! Mine does leak when the tank is full and I am parked slightly up-hill. Only when I top her off though and sometimes I can smell gas easier than the "A" .............

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
Have any of you had experience with installing a "Tanks, Inc" tank from underneath? Today I removed my original tank after continuing fuel contamination problems...just plain nasty looking inside. Apparently a prior effort at sealing the tank had failed (would have been done in pre-ethanol-spiked gasoline days), with the result that there's now black goo and rust on every surface. The original came out easily, but I'm concerned about the reports that Bob Drake's tanks won't go in from underneath, and am unsure about that problem with other brands. Also, any experience with the plastic tanks? Any suggestions/thoughts?

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
I replaced the tank in my 1946 Convertible with a Drake tank, very minor issues with the installation from underneath. I am pleased with the result.

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
Drake, nor anyone reproduces a correct 35 tank. The problem being the hydrostatic sending unit. You could use a 36 drake tank if authenticity it not that important. I have used three drake 36 tanks in 35’s and they all fit.
Now the drake 40 tanks do require a effort or at minimum minor trimming |

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
I've used the Tanks fuel sender on 4 cars. It's made by VDO. It works to a degree, but is not all that accurate when using the original gauge. It's basically a "guide" as to how much fuel is in the tank. Your best bet is to use a modern sender and the matching gauge under the dash, or put it in the right cowl panel where you can see it from the driver's seat.

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
Just a short follow up on this. I ended up ordering one of Bob Drake’s tanks. It came in 3 days, was beautifully made, and slipped in from below without difficulty. Kudos to Bob and his staff.

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
I have a Tank's in my 35 with a Tanks sending unit and a 36 fuel gage and it works great. I did have to modify the filler neck.

Re: Reproduction Fuel Tanks
Got a tank from Dennis Carpenter for my '39. Perfect fit and flat rate shipping. Stainless tank from Rock Valley, however had one of the baffles in the wrong place, so the float was permanently obstructed.....expensive mistake!!! Gauge registered half full when I ran out of gas at night on a dark road!!!
