Default Generator pulley removal?

Guys,

I've removed generator pulleys before and usually they slipped off pretty easily.

I have one that's stuck, and my puller is starting to deform the pulley. I've sprayed the shaft with PB Blaster and I've tried rapping on the armature with a hammer. I got a large screwdriver between the vanes and tried prying between the pulley and the shaft. Won't budge.

Shall I heat it up? Any other ideas?

First idea, tell us what type of car you have (maybe add it to your profile as well) and maybe post a few pictures. Any chance the pulley is threaded onto the shaft?

remove the locking ring at the end of the armature and then unscrew the pulley.

The generator is a 1963 Ford 12V, which is OT to this forum, but looking to possibly install on my 1951 Merc as shown in my avatar.

It's keyed, not threaded.

remove the two bolts from the back plate, pull the front pulley out with the armature still attached, now with the pulley nut removed, tap on the backside of the cast iron piece where the bearing goes, easy does it. ( remove the snap ring for the bearing first.)

when i was a kid i worked in a gen & starter shop after school & what they did was remove the armture with the pully on it . now they backed off the nut till it was flush with the shaft. they had a block of hard wood they would hold the armture in there hand & slam the nut end on the block. 99% of the time it worked the 1% that did not loosen they had pullers for
