Roof Drip rail sealer
What is the best to use on the rood drip rail? Just got the car back from the body shop where there was a lot of rust on the drivers side drip rail. All repaired now but want to make sure it stays that way. They shot the car with epoxy primer so do not know if I need to remove that first or can the sealer or whatever go over it?

Re: Roof Drip rail sealer
There are several sealers out there. Your local auto paint store can probably recommend one. I would stay with a self leveling one in a cartridge that you can install in a caulk gun. Not the 2 part stuff. Evercoat makes good products and here is one from SEM. SEM-29362. I think they have different colors as well. It may be applied to bare metal and usually a good quality sealer or primer as well. It may not hurt to use a Scotch brite on the rail first but probably not absolutely necessary. Then blow out any dust or dirt. When you do the job have an acid brush and a small container of clean water handy. Yow only have a short window to work the sealer. Use the brush or your finger dipped in water to smooth to your liking...Hope this helps somewhat.

Re: Roof Drip rail sealer
Several folks here recommended a good product for the application, but I don't remember the brand. I used it in 2017 when I was doing some major body work on this '55. It is available at some chain auto parts stores and used with a standard caulking gun. Don't get any on ya. And be real careful not to accidentally get any on the exposed portion of the car top.
I did strip the old material out of the rain gutter, then primer and enamel overcoat prior to caulking. Still looks like new and my car is never garaged. |
