Default Ford T8D-1 shift pattern

can't get trans into reverse- is reverse over to the right and up or is it over to the right and down? Does it help if engine is running? Thanks Mike

Is that the non-synchro truck 4-sp? If so,

The 4 Speed shift pattern in the Tonner looks like this Reverse is all the way to the right and down. To put it into reverse you have to lift the lever up on the shift arm.

Now I'm am confused, lift up, push down? what lever? I'm a real novice on this. My trans has no lever.

depending upon the year of the shift "tower" you may not have a reverse lock out lever that is pulled up. during ww2 the army had ford remove the lock out lever. we recently had a 4 speed in a 39 lock up in the shift tower--rusty-crusty, cleaned all this up and would still not shift into 3/4, turned out the gear was frozen on the shaft in the trans
