1941? Rear brake hub & drum
Hi All,
I have what i have been told is a 1941 rear end. I need to replace the hub/drum as is has been machined beyond its life and is out of round. Can anyone firstly identify if it is 1941 or other and advise of a source of replacement parts. Thanks |

Re: 1941? Rear brake hub & drum
The good news is that the hub/drum assemblies interchange 1940-48.

Re: 1941? Rear brake hub & drum
No need to replace hubs if they are good. Hubs with good drums are hard to find. I like the MT products drums, they are very good quality and I used them on my now sold 36 and my 41. They use modern style studs so much easier to install the studs, just ream out the hole to the appropriate style and press in(original style studs must be swaged in). Then the drums will come off the hub like a modern car. I'd send what you got to Burt's Model As in Denver. They can remove the old drums and insert the new studs. They know how to properly remove the old studs. Or perhaps a local machine shop can do it for you. I find local machine shops harder and harder to find. Sent my last job to Burt's. Burt's machine charges are very reasonable. Here are the drums which IMHO are the best quality out there, they also sell the studs as well but don't find them listed on the website(but they have them): http://www.mtcarproducts.com/Drums.html

But all are interchangeable. American hub/drom combos of both types and the one piece type are interchangeable, but the drums available for the American hubs are not compatible with the one piece design, or at least I have never heard of anyone modifying a one piece type into just a hub to take a replacement drum. The MT Products rear hubs with their new drums are excellent. Can be turned to .090 instead of .060 in. ID when needed. Reuse your original Ford wheel bearings as they are better than reproduction bearings. MT Products hubs and drums look like this:
