Some posters include a picture as part of their ID or whatever.
These appear as thumbnails

Some are of particular interest to me so I wanted to enlarge them for closer study. Nothing I have tried so far has produced anything other than another small picture.

If is possible to do that I need some tips on the procedure.
[Hopefully my very old software is not the problem].

Yeah. The pictures are known as "avatars." They're added in the "UserCP" button at the top of the page under "edit avatar." And, yes- a lot of the avatars are intriguing and it's kind of discouraging to not be able to get a better look. But, you could click on the poster's name which will send you to their profile. Once there, you could ask them to either send you the image OR post the avatar as a full blown image in a posting. You could also just put a reply on their post asking for the image to be posted.
