O1A exterior mirrors
Thinking of fitting 1940 O1A exterior mirrors, my car is left hand drive in the U.K so we drive on the other side of the road and the passenger side mirror needs to give a good view for overtaking ,it looks to sit a bit low for a good view from the other side of the car,my hinge pins are seized solid so trying an alternative to the hinge mirrors ,tried a peep mirror but useless ,any advice from you O1A owners would be appreciated , Thanks. Re: O1A exterior mirrors
I stuck a small convex spot mirror on the passenger side wind wing. Not perfect, but it works, as long as the weather allows you to leave the wing open.

Re: O1A exterior mirrors
I put my '40 Cowl Mirrors on my doors, with a 3" convex on each,
and I can see much-much better than when they were on the cowl. Click on picture to Enlarge.

Re: O1A exterior mirrors
I had the same concern and decided to go ahead and put in hinge mirrors on both sides. I purchased the hinge pin removing tool from the vendor as well as two mirror units, each with the slightly convex head. I wasn't sure I'd like the convex head on the driver's side but it actually makes driving feel a lot safer with the wider view on both sides.

Re: O1A exterior mirrors
Wouldn't it be nice if a vendor made nice looking cowl mirrors for a 39-40 Ford that looked original but with design changes so they actually worked? I am sure it could be done in such a way that they still went with the "flow" of the car. Just modify the "Swan neck" in the cowl Swan mirrors, cast them and then chrome plate them.

Quote:
Cowl mirrors were a Bad location from the start, with the Width of the cowl being that much less than the width of body at the "B" post. The swan neck on the right mirror would have to be Longer than the swan neck on the left mirror, which would look sorta goofy. .
