Flathead man 2,

I agree with Mike51Merc and Gary in La. 1000% you need to slow down and get some help from a local car club or chat room that wants to chat about anything! You seem to be all over the place.

I remember when I got my '41 pickup. My dad made me promise I wouldn't chop the cab. My 17-year-old vision was chopped, fat fenders, tubbed bed and a built 351C. If the H.A.M.B. existed back then I'd be there. You may to want check it out here

I'm making a budget for the car, most of the stuff I'll salvage. All I gotta do now is figure out how much the transmission, clutch and rear end will cost + shipping. I'll start simple cut costs and add and subtract until I have the budget I need. It'll probably be a while till I'm on with an update.

Does anybody have a cost estimate of building something like JD's avatar picture?

I've never done one, but I'd guess $20-$25K wouldn't be out of the ballpark. And that's assuming all the labor was free.

I do and I hope I'm right or forgive me. About $13.00. It is a model car photo shot at ground level. The lack of shadow underneath and shine on the tires gives it away.

I came out with an estimate north of $50,000 when I was planning a Brookville Steel Bodied 1932 Ford HighBoy. I bought a Henry Built car instead.

I found the car on the internet; Street Rodder Magazine. It's real.

I didnt say it was mine, I said I'm building one like this I just put that up for my avatar, oops I goofed should've said it more clearly, I dont explain well unless Im right next to ya. I cant get that connection by typing to explain my idea and vision. I'll explain better next time. TO EXPLAIN I'm starting by taking care of my grandparents and looking for a good job in mechanics and earning 50k then take 21K out for the hot rod. the car in the sigiture and avatar is a picture I found.

JD, a rat rod is by definition a ratty piece of junk held together with wood screws, coat hangers, broomsticks, iron rebar, grandma's rocking chair, an engine that still runs, and four mismatched tires. A rat rod gets attention at the thursday nite diner from guys wondering how many large parts fell off on the drive to get where it sits.

You have to come back down to earth re: your dream build. With the components you are talking about you will have close to $100K in your car. Earning 50K a year isn't enough after the government takes out taxes and you take out living expenses. And with inflation, "saving up" is really difficult. Buy a car you can afford and work on that. It will be realistic and a great learning experience.
