Default 9785 airtex fuel pump

The box says it's for an 8ba, but will it work fine on a 59ab? I see the inlet hose will be at a different angle and the shape of the gasket varies a bit. Thanks.

It will work on an earlier engine, you may have to rotate the top to get the lines in the right place.

Well the box says 'Made in USA' and it looks to be of high quality. I never dreamed of rotating the top, but doing so made both connections clocked like the 59ab pump, so I proceded to install it. Unfortunately with the pump stand that's on this engine, there is not room for the shape of the 9785 mounting surface to mate up. It looks like a person could grind or saw the casting of the late model pump and it would mate up, but since it's not an emergency repair, I opted to wait for another correct pump. I do after all, have one truck with an 8ba and it can be a spare for that. I know I could have adapted it if I really had to because there is enough flat milled onto the necessary surfaces. Thanks guys.

I did the same thing on my 40 massaged the bottom of the mount to match the earlier mount. Not pretty but it worked. Still on the car after many years. My Father used to say"If you are going to do Shoemaker Work be a Florsheim Shoemaker." Florsheim was a top Shelf shoe manufacturer located in Chicago.
