Default 1930 front fender installation questions

Whats the best way to reinstall my front fenders and splash aprons on a 1930 Tudor ? I took them off several years ago to do body work and paint and am close to finishing them. Body is on the frame. How far up does the body have to be lifted and how do you do it with minimal help ? Thanks in advance for any info.

I replaced the left front fender on my Fordor while the body was on. You have to remove the body bolts in the front to be able to life the body just a little to get the fender in. I lifted it maybe 1/4" at the most. I jacked it with a block across front edge of the floorboard. I glued the new body webbing onto the frame rail first, and then just slid the fender under the body, put the body bolts through and finger tightened them while I lined up and installed all the other bolts finger tight. Once all the bolts were in, I let the jack down and tightened them all down. Wasn't hard to do on my own.

Thanks Will N

I guess you did not install new splash aprons and running boards ? I wonder how hard that is to do ?

It can be done by carefully using an engine hoist to lift one side of the body at a time, then slide the splash aprons in. Be very careful when lifting the second side as to not damage the installed side.

As for putting the fenders on be sure to bolt on the fender supports and light bar first to be sure of the fit. Then do it again with the fenders.

even when you do it as suggested, it will be fun... sometimes fun isnt easy, but satisfaction of doing it is....somethings will be alot harder to do on these old cars....there is always some one around to lend a hand.....sure you can always take the body off to bare frame....then will be easier.....

All I remember is when I took the fenders and splash aprons off 4 or 5 years ago I did it all by myself with a few beers. Can't remember what kind of beer I was drinking back then.

Any other easier ways out there ??

What about getting four saw horses, two in each side of the car, then four guys pick-up the body while you slide 2 x 4's between to set the body on. Then you can put the fenders in place and put the body back down to finish the process. This will allow you plenty of time to install the anti-squeek and get the holes lined up for the fender and runningboard bolts.
