Default Crusty Flatty Pt28: Lets go for a drive! At last!

So here we are. Once again welcome to Mart's Garage. Six months ago I bought a heavily seized Ford Flathead V8. I tore it down. I learnt to use a boring machine and fitted liners. I cleaned up all the parts and built it up using used parts virtually all the way through. It's been a fun and interesting six months.
I've fitted it in my 33 Ford five window, so come and join me today as I take it for it's very first drive.

If you watch directly in Youtube the like and subscribe buttons become available. Obviously you're going to be needing them. Leave a comment too, it's nice to see what people think.

For those on social media please share with your friends. I believe that is what people do these days.

Thanks to all that have accompanied me on this journey.

Mart.

Might want to do a compression check to eliminate the valves and rings. Take care

Way to go Mart! I was thinking seizing with all that noise, but as they say, look for the simple things first, which is what you did.

Always a joy to watch. Better than anything on TV. If you decide to do a weekly program, I promise to watch.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

"Sigh of relief Div."....I love it! You're a wild man, Mart - going for the gusto! Amazing the contortions the fan belt went through during most of the video. Do you double clutch out of habit or do you find it necessary to do so given the transmission you have in the '33?.......

The sound of that engine, after the wires got uncrossed, is music to my ears. Best heard with the hood off and the windows down. Maybe I will put it on a loop for those nights when I have trouble going to sleep. Way better than white noise or ocean surf!

Thanks for the ride.

Hey Mart do you have juice brakes on that '33 or are you running the mechanicals?. I thought you were going to rear end that Audi.

Ya me too. I think that was one of those pucker stops as Petehoovies' by line, the one about silver rings, sez. Great job Mart.
Pretty good thriller too. Will Mart make it home? Will Mart miss the Audi? Will Mart find the problem or will it blow? Tune in next week kids be sure & eat your Wheaties.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Yeah, juice brakes. That looks a bit close on the movie but it was just typical early rush hour cut and thrust. The brakes are pretty good, actually, and inspire the confidence to drive more like a modern car.

Ok, yeah, I nearly rear ended him.

Mart.

Another one back from the dead! For a beater engine, it sounds pretty damn good. Nothing else sounds like a correctly running flathead V8.

When you think about it, it wasn't a lot different than some depression era "overhauls" and a lot of them worked OK for a good bit.

Very impressive Mart! I’m glad you got the bugs worked out of it. I tried to put a comment on YouTube but it wouldn’t let me so I’ll have to pop back in later to see if I can make it work.
You did a great job with that crusty Flatty!
