1935 Ford Pickup Door Latch Assm.
I need to clean and restore my pickup door latch assm back to a serviceable condition or replace them.
Checking Joes Catalog new complete assemblies are available, but not individual parts. Hoping someone else has gone down this path and can lend some help. Both latches are well worn, does anyone have a diagram of the original latch blade shape and dimensions. Thank you in advance.

Re: 1935 Ford Pickup Door Latch Assm.
Tim,
I have a 1935 Truck which uses the same door latches. Mine were worn in many places so I decided to take them completely apart, weld up the wear points and re-assemble them. I had to fabricate, using a lathe, the slide pin-rivet and replace the springs, but otherwise was able to return it to new condition and in great working order with almost no slop. I did not alter the slightly worn "blade" but did notice that it was held in place with two rivets, so it might be possible to replace this part with one from another latch assembly. It might also be possible to add metal by welding and filing back to shape but I didn't attempt that either because I was uncertain about the metal composition or any possible hardening. I took some pictures of the process to help me remember how it all came apart to aid in re-assembly. I'm very happy with the end results. I can share some pictures but it will take me a bit to dig them up. Let me know if any of this helps. Dave |

Re: 1935 Ford Pickup Door Latch Assm.
Thank you Dave,
I found a NOS right side today which is the most complex of the two with the lock mechanism. If I do not find a better left side I can use the NOS example to mill a new blade on the BP. Ford Barn is a great resource. Thanks!

The drivers side latch is always the hardest to find as it got used the most.
