Default Using Blue dot lens on stock tail light buckets

I bought tail light lenses with blue dots for my 31 , problem I ran into is that the bulb isn't even close to being inline with the blue dot using the original tail light buckets. I've tried moving the light socket but then the bucket won't fit on the bracket. I should have bought it all in one piece but didnt. Anyone ran across this or have any suggestions ? Thanks

Hmm yea judging by the way the light sockets are mounted short of custom making one and modifying the divider plate ( cut/drill/weld) im not sure there is a whole lot that can be done.

Around here most cops will over look the Blue Dots and ignore them especially going to and from shows, cruise in's etc.

What was the purpose of those blue dots anyway? I never understood what the big deal was about them. A 1950's "California" hot rod, making the scene at the local drive-in kind of thing? Are they supposed to make the vehicle more visible from the rear at night?
If an owner wants to install them on his car, fine. I'm not being judgmental. Just inquisitive. But to what purpose? Inquiring ("Enquiring"?) minds want to know...

Don't they get "grandfathered" ?

Methinks they were/are just dress-up. I remember seeing them back in the '50s, along w/the blue lights in the upper corners of windshields.

If installed correctly they will just show a little purple glow with the tail lights on.The red should overcome the blue.IF installed correctly. Then, when you step on the brake that blue dot jumps out as a bright purple light.Huge contrast between the tail and brake light on older cars. The blue dots really perform well in a 55 Chevy tail light. The light that shows up out of one of them looks like a modern high output LED.

I agree with Keith.
The way they light up when you step on the brake, you'd think they would be encouraged, rather than outlawed.

You can't grandfather something that was illegal to begin with.

I guess my question should have been - did blue dots ever come standard on a Model A as most, if not all, vendors sell them?

Blue tail lights were never a stock option from any auto makers.

It's an aftermarket dress up thing from the 50s.

Blue dots in red tail lenses date back to the early 30’s. They were standard on 31-33 Cadillac V12 &16’s and 32-34 Packard V12’s. Aftermarket use followed.

The intense visual response to the purplish apparent color is twofold:

1) The human eye has receptors for three primary colors and red tail lights stimulate only red receptors. Adding the blue spot causes response to two color band receptors and is perceived as brighter or more intense.

2) The human eye is not achromatic and cannot focus sharply at a distance to both red and blue in a dark environment, when the iris is full open and there is no ‘depth of field’ to make all colors focus at the same time, as in daylight. As a result, your brain frantically drives your eye muscles to search for focus. This causes heightened alarm in your unconscious perception.

Interesting, i wondered why the blue dot lights appear brighter...

Blue Dots were originally used on Police vehicles. Having any kind of blue light on a vehicle is illegal in most states.
