Default what's a period type super dual for a 8BA?

If I was looking for a low rise super dual inlet manifold to fit a 1951 239 block and I wanted it to be something that someone could have bought and fitted in the period of say, 1949 to 1960, but no later.... what would I be looking at?

It could be a modern/new casting or an original but I am not sure what I should be looking for?

It's to go an a marine speedboat engine.

Hi gavinnz; I'm not positive but I think what you're looking for would need to be marine specific. In any event you might try to find someone that deals in antique marine parts. Good luck, Craig.

Don't know if being period correct is your objective. I prefer the look.

If not, a 4 barrel intake is not counterproductive.

Thanks for the reply Craig. It does not have to be a marine inlet manifold, but I WILL have to alter the angle of the carb mounts on what ever I get to get the carbs closer to level. Either with add on wedges or cutting and re welding the carbs mounts...

I was thinking super dual with period two barrel carbs. But I don't know which carbs to pick? Standard from a 1951 Ford be OK? I am still learning so sorry if I ask obvious questions...

Others will give better advice....

If you are a reader jwl and ron have books. As many others.

Personally a intake with carbs spaced evenly isn't the worst. Not sure on a boat if you have to relocate the gen.

Sounds like a neat project.

Thanks. I will be relocating the generator (modern marine none sparking alternator in my case) down to the right as you look from the front and mostly out of sight. The position that the generator was in will become the place for a nice polished bronze salt water pump with polished copper pipes going to and from it with brass fittings.... should look the part!

Since your moving the gen, which I have no idea where a generator mounts on a flathead boat, out side a standard flathead.

Thinking, having the carbs distributed over the intake ports isn't bad. Think the slingshot add on tested well, but it raises the carbs quite a bit.

Personally I like 97s. Maybe a fuel injection project??? hilborn.

Best of luck!!!

So Gavin, without being a smartarse, an alternator is 'period correct'?

Fair question.
No not really, so I will paint it engine colour (vintage cream) and have it hidden way down low. I will make some compromises for safety and a little reliability.... like the electric fuel pump and pressure regulator I will have tucked away under the seats...

Might want to add an inertia switch for fun.

For those who might be interested this is what I am starting with..... New Zealand build with very little history. I have had it three years the previous owner had it 28 years and when he got it there was a rusted flathead Ford V8 in it. Best guess is that it was made by a talented amateur in the period 1930 to 1950. Its 16 feet long. Well worth the time and money to restore in my opinion. The bottom picture is when he got the boat 31 years ago. rear cockpit. engine forward... varnished mahogany etc...

The SUPER DUALS of Edelbrock and Navarro are some of my favorites with Navarro being the more powerful.
