Default Modern valves

Are the new valves (from Snyder's) too long. Andrews mentions cutting 1/16" off?

You won't know until you complete a test fit in your block with the lifters and camshaft you plan to use.
Good Day.

You will need to do one at a time. For a new cam you may have to trim every one of them. I installed all new valves, valve guides and springs on a used cam. Some I had to trim .005 to .015 and others I did not have to trim at all they were already .001 too short from the worn lobes on the cam. I used the stone on my pedestal grinder to trim the valves and finished them with fine emery cloth. It takes time and many trips back and forth to install it in the block, measure the gap then grind a little off again until the gap is correct.

Without adjustable lifters, ALL new valves will have to be individually fit per 1930deluxe's process.

While you are at it, you should probably measure the clearance on the ones you are not replacing. Some may be too tight due to recession of the valve face into the seat. Some may be too loose due to camshaft, lifter and valve stem wear. Ones that are too loose will also need to be replaced (and fit) to regain the proper clearance.

BTW, I would guess that the recommendation to cut 1/16" off would only apply if you have adjustable lifters....and even then I'd test fit them before cutting.

With adjustable lifters, with the adjuster part way up so you have some lee way to adjust, find the valve(s) with the least or no clearance, if any. If any need to be trimmed, find how much needs to come off to give you the proper clearance, then trim all the valves the same length. Fit valves and adjust from there. If you are using solid lifters, well you will need to "FIT" each valve.

I am guessing you are talking about the modern straight shaft valve, no foot?
