Differences in 35 and 36 Ford Pick-up
Are there any differences in the body such as the fenders or doors? How can you tell the difference in the two year models? I’ve seen that the door mirrors are a different shape.

I think the doors are the same...... ‘35 has a sharp crease by the bottom of the windshield post .... not sure about fenders..... Mark

Re: Differences in 35 and 36 Ford Pick-up
I have had both 35 and 36 ford pickups the 35 is a much better looking truck as the grill shell is not as deep (front to back) as a 36. The 35 has a nice slope to the grill as well, the ford v8 badge is on the middle side centre of the hood sides and at the front edge of the hood of the 36. The front edge of the hood is nearly straight up and down to match the grill shell edge unlike the 35 which is sloped back. So the hoods are not interchangeable unless you change the grill shell as well. The cabs are identical so is the box.
Ford made a much bigger radiator for the 36 truck this is why the changes in shells and hoods. |

Derek I agree with you on-the 35 looking better. I just found a site on the internet showing differences in the 35 & 36. Real interesting.

Re: Differences in 35 and 36 Ford Pick-up
The front fenders are not all the same. Some of the fenders have enclosed holes where the front bumper brackets pass through and some (most) have what amounts to a slot for the front bumper braces. I have been told that the fenders with the enclosed holes were early 35, which makes sense since the 37 pickup has the slotted type front fenders. The front fenders will interchange from 35-37 on the pickups. As Brendan pointed out, the 36 has the wide five artillery wheels and the 35 had wire wheels with a different bolt pattern. The 35 spare carrier is a one year design as a result with the 36 and 37 being different than the 35 due to the wide five.

Re: Differences in 35 and 36 Ford Pick-up
There’s a lot of info there, subtle changes, but it makes it easy to identify one from the other. If you have only the cab by itself you can tell what year it is. Even with no doors on it. Good pictures of the different grills also.

Re: Differences in 35 and 36 Ford Pick-up
I have a complete truck in ‘37 sheet metal....’38 car frame....motor/trans -rear end from a ‘37 car...’40 front end....patching the ‘37 cab with pieces from 35 & 36...this ain’t no restoration!!!!....more like a “Frankenstein truck”.....but I’m doing all the work and I’ll be happy with what it is when I’m done.....Maine isn’t a title state on vehicles older than 1995 I think......Mark

Re: Differences in 35 and 36 Ford Pick-up
You aren't the only one with a Frankenstein truck...I have a 40 flathead in a 1938 car frame, a 1936 cab with a 1937 bed. It all works
