Fuel pump oddity

Thanks for the great info. and taking the time to demo. with pictures. I was able to mount the fuel pump with your directions. It helped to mount the base first and then attach the pump as in your photos.
This is my first flathead experience.

I'm afraid to try that solution on mine, because if for some reason the rod really is too long or something is out of whack, I can't imagine what would happen when the rod came up under load! I haven't tried another pump because this is the only one I have. Seems like it should work since it all came together from a "running when parked except for the blown head gasket and half disassembled engine" truck.

You should get some 5/16 bar stock and cut that first and try it .

I got the engine disassembled but this is definitely the rod and pump that were on it before. The photo does not show the pump raised up but maybe there's something else obvious?

When you say " when the cam is as full rise, the pump sits about 1/4'1/2" off the intake manifold. " It sounds like you are installing the pump while it is installed on the riser. If that is so then remove the pump from the riser and install the riser first. Then install the pump. This way you can feel when the lever cup is hooked onto the pushrod.

That is what made the most difference for me. I think mounting pump and stand as a unit might not allow seating the rod to the pump cup accurately.

It is an Offenhauser for the latter block. The engine was rebuilt before I bought it. The push rod is new, pump and stand are old. Are the 8CM and 8BA pumps interchangeable?

I doesn't look flush either in your picture. Is it warped?

Oops I see it's a stock intake. Well then is it going through the bushing to the cam? Does it move up and down?

I am currently running an Offy intake and it does not take a longer fuel pump rod. It uses the stock 8BA pushrod. The only time the pushrod would be a different length is if you were using an earlier 59AB fuel pump/oil filler/breather setup. Then the pushrod would be shorter.
