Default Dennis Carpenter gasket problem

I fitted a pair of Dennis Carpenter water pump gaskets the other day only to find they are not compatible with water, it was wicking right through them and forming beads of water right round the water pumps, I removed the pumps and applied RTV but they still leaked through the paper, I made a new pair of gaskets from proper gasket paper and the problem has stopped. the Dennis carpenter gaskets turned to shit when I scraped them off. If you have a pair use them for a pattern, and save your self a lot of work and don't fit them.

Anyway I am back on the road in the video below.

The important thing is what did he do when you called him to complain? Of course from our location you might want to handle it with a letter. Please tell us the rest of the story.

Could have only been an NZ road when I viewed the video, not sure where it was until i saw the "Bethels Beach" sign. It was complete with a "clown" who overtook you on a yellow line about 2 or so minutes into the vid.

I sent an email to them and got a reply saying "thanks for the heads up I will pass the message on" and that was the end of that.

I'm surprised they did not give u their standard answer, " Really, we have never had that problem before."

That's Drake's standard answer.

That would most definitely not be a standard answer from Dennis Carpenter.
And about the gasket, I'd venture a guess that it was an isolated incident, perhaps an end of roll leader that got into the product stack.

I agree. I see and talk to Dennis at most every EFV-8 Club National Meet. He truly cares about this hobby, and the quality of his product line. I've seen him personally field customers issues, at these national meets, directly with his employees at his plant in NC, from his Bluetooth headset phone that he always seems to be wearing.

Question for the original poster.....were those the gaskets that are packed with the new water pumps?......or a set of new gaskets that were purchased as a separate item? The gaskets packed with the pumps are kinda sketchy.....we replace them with nice gaskets from BEST. The gaskets they sell separately are a tan color. Would help everyone if you could clarify this.

With all due respect, I don't see that the fact that the gaskets came packed with the pumps or were purchased separately has anything to do with it. They supplied gaskets that were "sketchy" at best, which is the real problem, no matter what color they were. I do my best to support these vendors; I would expect them to return the favor.

Mac is trying to isolate and identify the source of the bad gaskets, whether you can see that or not. If with the pumps, the pumps were likely to have been outsourced overseas, and there lies the answer. I think "these vendors" can well do without your kind of support.

What am I missing here? It seems obvious that the O/P received inferior gaskets from Carpenter. Are we not allowed to expect more than that? I know I do.

tubman---I'M WITH YOU.

Ask Carpenter about his '40 Ford rear window seals. See what kind of run around you get with that question.

I am, in fact, trying to isolate the gasket source. The original poster didn’t say which pumps he purchased so it would be helpful to know that as well. I viewed the video but it didn’t show any part of the pumps, and I don’t want to jump to conclusions.

The DC pumps are fine. The gaskets they supply with them (black paper) are not. We use the pumps but swap out the gaskets with good quality gaskets from BEST GASKET.

The reason I asked about the paper color was that DC also sells the gaskets separately and those are a tan color. I’m curious to know if the problem gaskets were the black ones packed with the pumps.......or the replacement gaskets of the tan color.

The question remains--why would Dennis Carpenter knowingly sell water pumps with gaskets that won't work????? The source IS Dennis Carpenter. That is the definition of poor customer service.
