239 Y Block Exhaust Manifold Question
I picked up a 54 Ford with a rebuilt 239 and Ford-O-Matic transmission. The car is pretty much all stock, and runs great. I would like to change the single exhaust to dual so I can get a deeper rumble out of it with a set of glasspacks. I would also like to eliminate the crossover exhaust pipe in front of the engine.
Does anyone make an aftermarket set of exhaust manifolds for the 239 that will dump the drivers side behind the engine like the passenger side? Or can I use an exhaust manifold from a 272 or a 292? I have a feeling the ports are most likely different sizes, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks! |

Re: 239 Y Block Exhaust Manifold Question
99% sure the oem dual exhaust manifolds from any 239+ full-sized car will fit.
The '57+ exh manifolds are a bit larger in diameter but the bolt pattern onto the heads is the same. Leave out the heat riser valve if it has one. Someone here who owns one can confirm the overall fit. Casting number chart... http://www.y-block.info/casting/exhaust.html . Last edited by dmsfrr; 04-11-2019 at 08:51 PM. Reason: add photo |

Re: 239 Y Block Exhaust Manifold Question
Except for the Lincoln / truck style y-block engines, which have a zig-zag bolt pattern.

One solution to duals on a 54 with Fordo is to use the stock left manifold, making a pipe that curves under the manifold. I bought a 54 with Fordo and this is what a prior owner had done and I have seen it on other 54's. I converted my 54 to stick trans so I could use the regular stock dual exhaust manifolds (after a 312 swap)

Re: 239 Y Block Exhaust Manifold Question
Other Solution no clearance issues with these on a '54: https://www.spotlitekustomaccessorie...k_Headers.html In fact the guy running the company has a '54 Ford.

Re: 239 Y Block Exhaust Manifold Question
Before you buy, be sure you don't run into the clearance problem noted above
